PDO Thread Lifting
What is a PDO Thread Lifting?
Aging causes loss of facial fat, especially around the cheeks, the eye area, the jowls, and the neck. Accompanying this is skin ageing where the elastic fibers in the skin become thinner resulting in loss of facial elasticity. The two processes result in a longer face and wrinkles due to the “facial scaffolding”not being able to provide as much support. Thread lifts or suture lifts involve the use of threads or sutures made from materials used in surgery to close wounds. When threads are placed under the skin they can tighten and lift loose or sagging areas in various parts of the face and body to help reduce the effects of gravity and ageing, or they can be used to rejuvenate the face.

This procedure involves the insertion of PDO threads via a cannula. The cannula is then removed leaving the thread in place. Over the following weeks the threads begin to dissolve, leaving the face lifted. An immediate effect can often be seen after treatment, however the results will improve over the course of 2-3 months.

There are many different types of PDO threads.
Mono Threads – these are smooth threads without barbs. Many of these threads are placed into the face in a mesh like fashion for skin tightening. Skin tightening usually improves after collagen starts forming around the thread. Treatment areas include neck, forehead and around the eyes.
Screw Threads – these can come in the form of one or two threads intertwined together around the inserting needle. Screw threads have a great effect on giving volume on sunken areas of the skin and used for general face lifting.
Cog Threads – these are essentially mono threads with barbs to hook to the underside of the skin. The barbs form a support structure that lifts the sagging tissues. Collagen formation can also occur around the threads and their barbs. Cog threads are most effective for jaw line lifting and slimming.

There should be minimum interruption in daily life and no concerns about removal as the threads will be fully dissolved in the body after 2 -6 months. There may be some slight swelling and bruising following procedure.

Mono Threads are made from a material called Polydioxanone which is an absorbable polymer that is flexible and durable. Matrix PDO Thread induce production of collagen, creating a tightening effect for 6 to 12 months after your procedure. The threads become a support structure for your face allowing natural collagen and hyaluronic acid production to take place, over time the PDO thread will be fully absorbed by the body. Typically, around 10-30 PDO mono threads are used to treat an area.
